If you tested positive for herpes Anti-viral drugs are prescribed. There is no cure for herpes. The most common antiviral drugs prescribed are Acyclovir, Famciclovir, and Valacyclovir. Take these antiviral medications to treat and suppress the disease. Sexual contact should also be avoided. Another preventive measure is to use Latex condoms properly to minimize the chances infection. Stay in a monogamous and long term relationship with a partner who is not infected. And most important of all is to talk to your partner to have them take Herpes testing for immediate medication if indeed infected.

Medication for genital herpes does not cure the disease. The virus still lives but it is suppressed to a state of being inactive through out an infected person’s lifetime as long as they continue on taking daily suppressants for genital herpes. Recurrences are unavoidable but they will have less severe symptoms and sores usually last for a shorter time. Always consult your doctor or provider about your condition they are the experts when it comes to this.
